On 26 July 2023, the 18th rye harvest since the beginning of this project in 2006 took place at the Chapel of Reconciliation. It was the eleventh time that it took place within the framework of FriedensBrot.
The announcement in the regional and national press had attracted numerous interested people to Bernauer Strasse, who followed the event with great interest, as they do every year. Representatives of the press surrounded the combine harvester of the Humboldt University of Berlin as a special technical attraction in the urban city centre. Among those present were the director of the Berlin Wall Foundation, members of Friedensbrot e. V., the Protestant Reconciliation Church, and numerous international visitors to the Berlin Wall Memorial.
As every year, the harvest will now be processed and made available to the Reconciliation Parish.
Part of the harvest will be sent to the Slovakian partners of the Association PeaceBread e.V., where it will become part of the PeaceBread 2023 baked in honour of the 9th International Annual Conference on “Peace and Agriculture”. The conference will take place from 20 to 22 September under the motto “Promoting the engagement of young farmers in the development of research and use of new technologies in agriculture”.
With the next rye sowing scheduled for the end of September 2023, the new rye year 2023/24 is already in the firmament.
