Students of North Carolina State University visited the Berlin Wall Memorial on 16th June 2013 on the occasion of the „Long Day of City Nature“. The group is staying at Karls-University in Prague for a one month study visit and came to Berlin for a weekend. Members of the board of the association FriedensBrot e.V. (PeaceBread), retired priest Manfred FISCHER and Prof. Frank ELLMER, welcomed the students and their advisor Prof. Robert B. PATTERSON at the Chapel of Reconciliation and explained the concept of the memorial.
The rye field was of particular interest; the students asked very detailed questions with regard to the historic background and creation, the present state and the planned “PeaceBread” project. At the end of the visit, all participants received a sample of the rye bread which was made from rye of the 2012 harvest. Furthermore, small bags of rye were given to the students as souvenir of the Chapel of Reconciliation. This day will surely remain alive in each participant’s mind for a long time to come.
