On October 23, 2025, the 9th FORUM PeaceBread took place at the Visitor Center of the Berlin Wall Memorial. The focus was on the rye fields surrounding the Chapel of Reconciliation – a place where history, remembrance, and agriculture come together in a unique way, and which marks the origin of the PeaceBread idea, as emphasized by Anton Blöth, Chair of the Association, in his welcome address to around 50 participants.
In a conversation filled with personal memories and charmingly moderated by Catarina Zanner, Professor Axel Klausmeier (Director of the Berlin Wall Foundation) and Pastor Thomas Jeutner (Evangelical Parish of Reconciliation) conveyed how deeply the rye field touches people, connects them, and radiates far beyond its location. A special highlight was the recollection shared by Michael Spengler about how the sowing of rye on the former death strip first came about – and how many fortunate circumstances contributed to the growth and flourishing of the field.
Before the FORUM, members of the PeaceBread Association gathered for their annual general assembly, during which they reviewed the past year and looked ahead. Members also had the pleasure of receiving the freshly baked PeaceBread from master baker Wolfgang Zimmermann, who traditionally bakes it for the FORUM PeaceBread.
