Establishment of “Hungarian PeaceBread Association”

First task: Organisation of 3rd. annual Forum “Peace and Agriculture at September, 22–24 in Szarvas, Hungary

Dear Partners of the PeaceBread Project,

We are glad to inform you that on the 6th of April our European initiative had a big step further. It was three years ago when we join the PeaceBread Project and now the Hungarian PeaceBread Association (“Magyar Békekenyér Egyesület”) was launched in the beautiful town of Szarvas. Our new association will promote the well-known objectives in Hungary and beyond. Peace and sustainable agriculture are closely related. But sometimes we forget to appreciate that. The members of the association come from different sectors: agricultural research, farming, local and public administration and church.

We together want to make sustainable agriculture and its importance in our life more visible for the public at large. Our first and important task will be the organization of the 3rd PeaceBread conference in Szarvas:

Annual forum “Peace and Agriculture” and the ceremonial act of baking our new mutual PeaceBread at September, 22 – 24.

We hope to see you all in Szarvas, Hungary! Official invitation letter and detailed information about agenda you will get very soon. We wish to work closely together with the FriedensBrot Association and friends in all PeaceBread partner countries. Hopefully this was only the first step forming an international network of associations.”

The Association PeaceBread

The non-profit association PeaceBread based in Berlin was created according to its statutes to

  • highlight and make a contribution to the reciprocal connection between peace keeping in Europe and the world and sustainable agriculture,

  • contribute to the commemoration of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain in Europe in 1989 and to refer to the new possibilities that were created by universal peace in Europe,

  • include partners from countries that joined the European Union after 1989 or have a membership prospect and therefore promote peace and the understanding between nations.

The members and the managing office of the Association PeaceBread are doing this on a honorary basis. The association acts independently in matters of organization and content
