Berlin, 30 June 2025 – The association FriedensBrot is pleased to announce that the Federal Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Alois Rainer, has assumed patronage of the FriedensBrot project. In doing so, the new Minister continues the valued tradition established by his predecessors and affirms the long-standing and close cooperation between the Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (BMLEH) and the initiative.
Commenting on his patronage, Federal Minister Rainer stated:
“The association FriedensBrot uniquely combines peace, sustainable agriculture and European cohesion. Especially in a time marked by global tensions and conflict, we need strong symbols of understanding and cooperation. The commitment to peace in Europe requires courage, dedication and a persistent will to build bridges between people and nations – and since its founding, FriedensBrot has embodied exactly that spirit. It is therefore a personal concern and an honour for me to support FriedensBrot on this important path as its patron.”
The Minister’s patronage sends a strong signal in turbulent times. Anton Blöth, Chair of the FriedensBrot association, emphasized:
“In a world still affected by conflicts such as the brutal war in Ukraine, European cooperation and mutual understanding are more vital than ever. Peace and food security are two sides of the same coin. Since its inception, FriedensBrot has helped raise awareness of this connection and has fostered exchange and collaboration across borders.”
The continued patronage by the BMLEH also represents a key step for FriedensBrot’s future development. Following last year’s successful anniversary conference, the initiative has entered a new phase of dialogue and cooperation within the international network Peace and Agriculture. A particular focus is placed on engaging youth in rural Europe. Through its Sourdough Camps, FriedensBrot aims to inspire young people to actively participate in shaping a sustainable and peaceful future, while strengthening cross-border European exchange. In this context, the association has recently initiated a new collaboration with the Andreas Hermes Akademie
