The COUNTYCIRCLE – a discussion group in the capital addressing issues related to countryside, urban areas and agriculture – stopped at the rye field at the Chapel of Reconciliation on Bernauer Straße in Berlin on Saturday, 8th June 2013, during an excursion on “Urban Gardening/Urban Farming”. The retired priest Manfred Fischer, member of COUNTRYCIRCLE and Chairman of the association PeaceBread e.V., allowed the 21 participants to partake in stories, experiences and consequences of the Cold War, the setting up of the Wall, and the reconciliation – up to the chapel of today, which is situated on the former death strip and surrounded by two rye fields, where now – in full bloom – rye is grown for the European peace-bread.
